In the past, one’s personal computer tended to be one of their most prized possessions. Today, most people have more than one computer in their lives. While users may not own all these computers, it’s common enough that people have their music and other files stored on their work and home computer or on their laptop and desktop. Keeping these files consistent between the machines can be something of an affair for some users. Many users have a difficult time maintaining a regular and reliable way to transfer music from IPod to ITunes between one computer and the next.
The strength of the IPod both from a market and a technological perspective is that it allows users to transfer large amounts of data on a small and portable device. Ultimately, the goal is to recreate what exists on one computer on another computer in as seamless a fashion as possible. For most users, this means preserving playlist data, ratings data and other data that defines their IPod experience. In most cases, third-party software handles this task in a far more efficient and predictable way than users are able to conceive themselves.
While many of the tasks required of a user who is transferring music are not particularly difficult to understand, the amount of steps involved in performing these tasks manually are oftentimes logistically very difficult to keep straight. Using software which automates this process is one of the most convenient ways for users to make certain that everything goes as planned and that the process produces the desired results. The software suites sometimes offer features such as easy backup and recovery of files, the ability to reduce complex processes to a single button-press and other features that make them valuable tools.
